Richard Martin Hymas

November 11, 1957 – May 18, 2025

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Richard Martin Hymas, who returned to his Heavenly Father on May 18, 2025, in Nampa, Idaho, due to natural causes. He was 67 years old.

Born on November 11, 1957, in Preston, Idaho, Richard was the youngest of six children born to Don Robert Hymas and Lillie Roma Beckstead Hymas. He was raised in Twin Falls, Idaho, where he made cherished memories and lifelong friends. He attended Bickel Elementary, O’Leary Middle School, and graduated from Twin Falls High School. As a young teen, one of Richard’s fondest memories was riding in his brother-in-law Larry Dunn’s van—that left him in awe of the unique of a kitchenette on wheels.

After high school, Richard devoted two years of service as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Australia. His time there deepened his faith and compassion—qualities that would define his life.

Soon after returning home, Richard met his eternal sweetheart, Kelly Anne Reed, at a young adult ward activity. Their love story was one of patience and persistence; Richard knew from the beginning that Kelly was the one. After three proposals, Kelly finally said yes, and their beautiful journey together began.

Throughout their marriage, Richard and Kelly made homes in various places across Idaho and Utah, including Twin Falls, Provo, Vernal, Sunset, Logan, Chubbuck, and ultimately, Nampa. Each move brought new experiences and friendships, but the heart of their home was always centered around love, family, and faith.

Richard was a devoted father and grandfather. He adored spending time outdoors with his family, especially on camping trips to Flaming Gorge, where fishing was a must. It was also a time of reset as he was able to escape the stress of work and life and make his family bonds even stronger. One of his most treasured traditions was “Grandparents Day,” when he used his work bonus to create unforgettable moments with his grandchildren, whether at Lagoon or through cupcake-decorating contests that filled the house with laughter.

Professionally, Richard was a committed and loyal retail manager. He spent the early years of his career as an assistant manager at a grocery store, then spent 18 years with Walmart and 10 years with Ross. His dedication was met with care and respect from his employers, especially during times of illness when his job—and his dignity—were protected. Richard never took this for granted and gave his best in return.

A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Richard found great fulfillment in serving quietly and diligently. One of his favorite callings was as a financial clerk.

Richard had many hobbies, including woodworking, where he crafted beautiful rolling pins, cutting boards, and lamps—most of which he gave as heartfelt gifts. He had a deep love of reading, especially suspense novels by Steven Balducci, and passed this passion on to Kelly. He also loved to travel; highlights included visiting Astoria, Oregon, Mt. Rushmore, and the Battle of Little Bighorn. Though he never made it to the Grand Canyon, he often dreamed of it.

Those who knew Richard will remember his witty dad jokes, gentle sarcasm, warm smile, and even warmer hands. He had an extraordinary gift for making people feel truly seen and valued. Whether through a quiet conversation or playful moment with his grandkids, Richard radiated love.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Kelly Anne Reed Hymas; his parents-in-law, Charles and Earline Reed; his children: Katie Anne Hulse (Charles), Reed Martin Hymas (Kristine), Brett Miles Hymas (Staci), and Jared Don Hymas (Stephanie); 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Lillie Hymas, and his brother, Kent Hymas.

A graveside service to honor and celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at 1:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park, 2296 Kimberly Road, Twin Falls, Idaho. Arrangements are under the care of Zeyer Funeral Chapel.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that Richard's legacy of love, kindness, faith, and humor lives on in each of us. He was a quiet giant, a steady presence, and a cherished soul who made the world better simply by being in it.
