Darlene (Thueson) Tobler was born on November 18, 1934, in a home on 16th Avenue in Nampa, Idaho. She was the cherished daughter of Gail and Lela Thueson, who were thrilled to finally welcome a daughter after four sons—Elwood, Duane, Larry, and Darrell.

Darlene was a vivacious young lady with a warm personality and many friends. She graduated from Nampa High School in 1953 and later attended and graduated from Brigham Young University.

Marriage & Family

In November 1956, Darlene married the love of her life, Don Lee Tobler, in the Salt Lake City Temple. Together, Darlene and Lee were blessed with six children, 18 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and an eternal companion in every sense.

Education & Teaching

Darlene taught elementary school in Skokie, Illinois, during 1957–1958 while her husband earned his MBA from Northwestern University. Her love of learning and teaching remained a defining part of her life.

Life & Travels

In 1958, Darlene and Lee moved to New York City, where five of their six children were born—Lisa, Julianne, Curtis, Craig, and Denise. Their son Brad was later born in Connecticut.

Over the years, the Tobler family lived in Hartford, Connecticut; Houston, Texas; Akron, Ohio; and later in San Antonio, Texas; Mesa, Arizona; and Nampa, Idaho.

Faith & Service

Between 1958 and 2003, Darlene lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Frankfurt, Germany, faithfully supporting her husband as he served as a General Authority Seventy. Her quiet strength, devotion, and unwavering support made his service possible.

From 2004 to 2007, Darlene and Lee served together as President and Matron of the Columbus Ohio Temple, a sacred calling that reflected her deep faith and commitment to the Lord.

Darlene is remembered as an amazing woman, a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, and a devoted eternal companion whose life of love, service, and quiet strength blessed all who knew her.
