After facing cancer with determination, positivity, humor, and grit, Michael David Pishl, our beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on June 25, 2026, at the age of 55.
Early Life
Michael was born on March 12, 1971, in Portland, Oregon, to his mother, Kathryn. He later became an official Pishl when he was adopted by his father, James Pishl. He was the oldest of three children.
Michael grew up in Orofino, Idaho, where he developed a lifelong love for Idaho's mountains, rivers, and the outdoors. Summers spent along the Columbia River with his grandparents became some of his most treasured childhood memories.
His family later moved to Boise, Idaho, where he graduated from Boise High School and attended Boise State University. During his high school years, he worked for many years at Albertsons, developing the strong work ethic that would characterize his entire life.
Career & Talents
While still in high school, Michael discovered his passion for art. That passion eventually became his life's vocation—making things beautiful.
Beginning with restoring and repairing antique furniture, he continually refined his craft until he became a highly skilled remodeling contractor. Whether building custom kitchen cabinetry, crafting detailed wood trim and molding, or transforming entire homes, Michael possessed a remarkable ability to envision what something could become and bring it to life. His workmanship reflected both creativity and excellence, leaving behind countless homes made more beautiful because of his gifted hands.
Marriage & Family
Long before online relationships became common, and back when dial-up internet connected the world one phone line at a time, Michael met Marcy Rueckert online.
They were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in June 2000.
Together they were blessed with twin daughters, Morgan and Madolyn, who became the greatest joy of Michael's life. He loved his girls deeply, and being their father was one of his greatest blessings.
Faith & Service
Michael was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout his life.
His greatest joy in Church service came from working with the youth. For much of his adult life, he devoted countless hours to encouraging, teaching, and mentoring young people, leaving a lasting impression through his kindness, humor, and genuine love for others.
A Friend to Everyone
Michael never met a stranger.
Blessed with the gift of conversation, he had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. Whether speaking with a young child or an older adult, people immediately sensed his sincere interest in them. His warmth, humor, and genuine compassion allowed friendships to blossom wherever he went.
Following his cancer diagnosis, Michael became involved with Idaho 2 Fly, where he discovered a new passion for fly fishing. The peaceful rivers, quiet moments outdoors, and friendships formed with fellow cancer fighters brought him comfort, strength, and joy throughout his illness.
Survivors
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Marcy Pishl; his daughters, Morgan and Madolyn; his parents, Jim and Kathy Pishl; his brother, Adam (Trena) Pishl; his sister, Amy (Jake) Thueson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who dearly loved their Uncle Michael.
Legacy
Michael will be remembered for his unwavering faith, artistic talent, generous heart, infectious sense of humor, and remarkable ability to make everyone feel like a lifelong friend.
He taught those around him how to face adversity with courage, grace, laughter, and hope. His legacy lives on through the family he adored, the lives he touched, and the beauty he created with both his hands and his heart.
